Mobile Performance Meter is an Android app that lets you earn money just by having it on your phone.

Mobile Performance Meter is a free Android app developed by Embee Mobile. It may sound like one of the utilities apps people use to monitor and fine-tune the performance of their smartphones and tablets, but that is not what this is at all. Businesses want data about how and when people use their phones and other mobiles devices. Those businesses will pay well for big data.

When it comes to the usage of mobile networks, that large volume of data is not easy to come by. The service providers certainly have access to some portion of that data, but there are privacy concerns and thus privacy policies and privacy laws dictating how that the data can be collected, used and sold.

Embee Mobile is among a number of companies who have sought a solution to this dilemma. They circumvent the privacy concerns by having you opt in. You agree to this when you download the app and install it on your phone. The app then runs as a background process and sends data to a home server about your behaviors, network performance and the like. The data that is sent from your phone to the server is anonymous, which means that it is not tagged with anything that could identify it as yours.

Embee Mobile collects the big data and sells it to the companies. So, what is in it for you? In order to make it worth your while, Embee Mobile pays you. It does not pay you directly in cash, but it lets you earn a cash amount that you can use to donate to charities or purchase give cards for restaurants, gas stations and even retail giants like Amazon and Walmart. As a side opportunity, there are often surveys available from participating businesses. These are optional but can up your earnings quite a bit.

Earnings depend on how much you use your phone and can range about $0.05 to $0.50 a day. In our estimate, the average user is making about $0.20 a day. You should also have at least one survey available to you in the course of a month that will pay out $1.50. That means that you can probably earn at least $15 in gift cards every two months, and active users will be able to earn even more than that.

While you will not get rich off it, it is not bad to get paid for something you would do anyway. Gift cards can be claimed at $5 or more in five-dollar increments. The gift cards are electronic, sent by email and generally arrive within just a few moments of requesting them. Note that Mobile Performance Meter is not a resource-intensive app, but if you have to use a VPN or the app is gobbling up your precious cellular data, then those costs can certainly offset any profit you might earn.

Pros
